Print Operations

PhotoVP has powerful print functions. There are three modes (methods) to print your photo in PhotoVP: Single photo mode, Multi-photo multi-copy multi-page mode, and thumbnail mode. There are also many predefined print size you can use directly.

4'x6' - set the print size to 4'x6'.

5'x7' - set the print size to 5'x7'.

6'x8' - set the print size to 6'x8'.

7'x9' - set the print size to 7'x9'

8'x10' - set the print size to 8x10'

Fit to Paper - set the print size as large as the print paper (see figure below).
Note: If you choose the print size to Fit to Paper, the "Clip to Fit Size" has no effect.

Print preview with print size set to Fit to Paper.

Actual Size - set the print size to the actual size of the image. For simplicity, the actual size of an image is calculate as the pixel size divided by 100, for example, if the width of an image is 640 pixel, then the actual size of this image is set to 640/100 = 6.4 inch.
Note: "Clip to Fit Size" has no effect under this setting.

User Defined Size - set the print size to what size you want using the following dialog window:

Note: Please note that the unit is inch for the user defined size.

The following figure shows a print preview window with a user defined print size of 3'x2':

Print preview with user defined size of 3'x2' and multi-copy selection.

Clip to Fit Size - Most often, the ratio (width : height) of an image is not the same as the ratio of the print size. So if you want to print all the content of an image using certain print size, the actual printing will not be as wide or high as you expect, depending upon the difference of the ratio. For example, in the following figure, the top photo is a little bit narrower and the bottom photo shorter.

Print preview without setting the "Clip to Fit Size".

If you want the printings be same as the print size you set, just choose (select) the "Clip to Fit Size" menu item. Then the printings will be exactly the same as the print size, but some part of the photo (the right or the bottom)  will not be printed, as the following figure shows:

Print preview with the "Clip to Fit Size" selected.

Note: Sometimes maybe you want the left or top part be clipped instead of the right or bottom part. How can you do this? In Single Print mode, by rotating or flipping the photo, you can get this effect, as the following two figure shows:

Clip top or left part by rotating the photo.

Show Print Selection - show or hide the Print Selection Control:

When you don't wont to print multiple copies or multiple photos at the same time, you usually don't need to show the Print Selection Control. Whenever you select to show this control, the print mode is set to Multi-photo Multi-copy Multi-page mode (see figure below). Then you can choose which photo to print and how many copies you want to print, as show in screenshot 3
Note: The Print Selection Control can't be displayed if the thumbnail size is set to 25x20.

Print preview in Multi-photo Multi-copy Multi-page mode.

Select/Clear All - Select all the photos in current folder or clear all the selection.

Set Print to Thumbnail - set the print mode the Thumbnail mode. In this mode, both print preview and print are direct to thumbnail printing. So all the photos in the current folder are printed using the current thumbnail size. For example, the following figure shows a thumbnail printing with current thumbnail size of 200x150:

Print preview in Thumbnail mode with thumbnail size 200x150.

Page Setup - Show the Page Setup dialog to select paper size, paper margins, and printer etc.

Print Preview - Show the Print Preview dialog.
Note: Although there is a print button in the print preview dialog, you are strongly advised to use the Print menu item or Print button on the toolbar of PhotoVP to print your photo, for the print button on print preview dialog sometimes function abnormally.

Print - Show the Print dialog.
