Introduction

About PhotoGyro

PhotoGyro is a Java application for Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, NT 4.0, XP, Linux, Unix, and Mac!

PhotoGyro is a powerful Photo (image) rotation software! With PhotoGyro, you can:

  1. Open and save .jpg or .jpeg photos (images).
  2. Rotate a photo automatically by using the Auto Rotation operation. You can start or stop the auto rotation at any time.
  3. Rotate a photo to eight directions (up, up-right, right, down-right, down, down-left, left, up-left) by just click one button, by using the Fast Rotation operation.
  4. Increase or decrease certain degree (one step) to the photo by using Fine Rotation operation. There are 4 levels of steps: 0.25, 0.50, 1.00 degree, and 2.00.You can use this function to fine adjust the photo.
  5. Increase or decrease the photo to a pre-defined degree: 5, 10, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degree.
  6. Zoom the photo the a certain size. And you can save or not save the effect and zoom operation.
  7. You can see the effect of the rotation operation through the outer rectangle and two inner rectangle.
  8. You can choose to save the result photo in three ways: save the outer-line boxed photo, save the blue inner-line boxed photo, and save the red inner-line boxed photo or save these three photo at the same time!
  9. You can reset (restore) the photo to its original position at any time.

System requirements

  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.2 or above for the operation system your machine use. You can download it free from: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/
  • Operation systems: any one of:
        Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP
        Linux
        Unix
        Mac
  • 32 MB RAM or more
  • 1 MB free disk space
  • VGA - True Color video mode

Installation:

  1. If you download the .exe file, run and Unzip the PhotoGyro.exe file 
    to any directory you want (like c:\PhotoGyro).
    If you download the .zip file, unzip the PhotoGyro.zip to any director you want.
    If you download the .jar file, just put it in any directory you want.
  2. In this directory, just click or double-click the file: PhotoGyro.jar to run it
    It's that simple!
  3. UNINSTALL:
    Just delete the directory you install PhotoGyro to it.

File Operations:

Open file - Open a exiting file on the disk. For now, only .jpg or .jpeg file can be opened. 

Save file - Save the rotated image to disk in .jpg format. Please note that this will not save the file to its original name, but to xxx_outer.jpg, xxx_inner1.jgp, or xxx_inner2.jpg (where xxx is the file name), depending upon the save options you choose in the "Option | preference..." dialog window.

Save the file using a name you input or choose in the "Save as..." dialog. You don't need to input the file extension (.jpg), the program will add it. As noted above, how many files and which files are saved is depended on the save options you choose. 

Reset - This will reset the image to its original view.

Exit PhotoGyro without save anything.

Zoom Operations:

Depend upon the zoom options you choose in the "Option | Preference..." dialog, the zoom operation can be only for view purpose or the effect of the zoom operation also affect the "Save" or "Save as" operations. Please note that the fraction or percent (like 1/2 or 50%) is refer to the width or height of the photo, not the area.

Zoom to 1/4 the original size.

Zoom to 1/2 the original size.

Zoom to 3/4 the original size.

Zoom to 4/4 the original size, that is, restore to the original size.

Fast Rotation Operations:

The Fast rotation operations let you rotate the image to eight different directions at any time.

Rotate clockwise 45 degree ( -45 degree).

Rotate clockwise 90 degree ( -90 degree).

Rotate clockwise 135 degree ( -135 degree).

Rotate 180 degree ( -180 degree).

Rotate counter-clockwise 135 degree ( 135 degree).

Rotate counter-clockwise 90 degree ( 90 degree).

Rotate counter-clockwise 45 degree ( 45 degree).

Rotate 0 degree or 360 degree.

Automatic Rotation Operations:

Automatic rotation operations let you start the rotation automatically. You can start the automatic rotation at any time and the image begin clockwise rotation from the current degree, increasing one degree every time. Please note that if the image is very big or your computer is not fast enough, the automatic rotation may be flicker. You can use zoom operation to reduce the image size to eliminate the flicker.  

Start the automatic rotation.

Fine Rotation Operations:

Fine rotations let you rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise one step. There are four level of steps: 0.25 degree, 0.50 degree, 1.00 degree, and 2.00 degree. The default step is 1.00 degree. You can set the step level in the "Option | Preference..." dialog.

Increase one step, that is, rotate one step counter-clockwise.

Decrease one step, that is, rotate one step clockwise.

This comboBox let you choose to add certain degree to the current degree. Your can choose to increase (add) or decrease (subtract) 5, 10, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degree.

Options:

Preference - Preference let you setup some options for the PhotoGyro. These options are:

  • Save Options:

  1. Save black-boxed outer image: choose this option to save the whole rotated image, including the white space at the four corners.
  2. Save blue boxed inner image: choose this option to save the horizontal-preferred rectangle area boxed by the blue line. This option will save a smaller image without any white space.
  3. Save red boxed inner image: choose this option to save the vertical-preferred rectangle area boxed by the red line. This option will save a smaller image without any white space.   
  • Step Options:

Set the steps used in the Fine rotation. You can choose four levels steps: 0.25, 0.5, 1.00, and 2.00.

  • Zoom Options:
  1. Zoom only for view: choose this option if you only want to zoom operation affect the view of the image, that is, it only affect how large the image is displayed on the screen.
  2. Zoom for both view and save: choose this option if you also want the zoom operation is considered in the save operation.

Reasons to register

PhotoGyro is a "Shareware". You are entitled to evaluate the software for 30 days without having to pay. After 30 days, if you decide to keep the software, you must register your copy with us for a small amount of fee. The unregistered copy of PhotoGyro will include "Processed with PhotoGyro" in the saved image.

Distribution (Shareware Version)

You are licensed to make as many copies of the UNREGISTERED SHAREWARE VERSION of PhotoGyro as you wish and distribute them to anyone, but you must distribute all the files. You are also licensed to save the UNREGISTERED SHAREWARE VERSION of PhotoGyro to your software library for others to download.
