The Collected Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway

W/A: Steve Purcell

When a friend of mine saw this, he said "So it's not just a video game."
We've all heard about Sam & Max, but few of us have read the original
comic. Overstreet says that Sam & Max back issues are some of the most
difficult to find, and considering the back stock in most comic book
stores is limited to over-ordered Image books, Marlow & Company have done
the universe a favor by collecting all their adventures in one volume.

"So what the hell is the book about?" They're gun-toting, larger than
actual size plush toys. Sam is a big dog in a cheap suit. Max is a little
buck naked rabbit with pointy teeth, and no one knows where he carries he
gun. They're Freelance Police, and when the unseen commissoner (I wonder
if he sounds like John Forsythe) calls, they're off to shoot up the
world. It's Batman meets The Maltese Falcon meets Milk and Cheese. Or
something like that.

I can't gush over this book enough. Trust me, it's absolutely hysterical.
They get in the most bizarre predicaments, in the Phillipines, in Ancient
Egypt, on the Moon, and just when you think there's no way they can get
out without some movie serial cliche, something utterly unexpected happens
that sends you rolling around on the floor. I'd love to detail every
funny bit in the collection, but I detest spoilers, and you wouldn't want
me to deprive you of the pleasure of laughing at the real thing.

This book is hitting stores this month, so go down to your local shop and
get a copy. And if they don't have it in stock, you'll just have to call
the Freelance Police on them. ($12.95, Marlowe & Company, 632 Broadway,
Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10012)
