Photographs taken during fieldwork at Lihir Island in the Tabar-Feni island chain in eastern Papua New Guinea

A picture of my field vehicle. Here we stopped in a lagoon to have our necessary surface interval after a morning of intensive underwater work. Later you can view some pictures of the friendly island kids we met that day.

Venting at Lihir mainly consisted of a gaseous phase with minor liquid discharge. Water depth is approximately 10 m. We found two types of hydrothermal precipitates: 1) iron sulfides and 2) dolomite. If you would like to know more about this project read this.

Where ever we went, the islanders were very freindly. These kids had a blast being photographed. Later I showed them my scuba diving equipment and let them breathe through the regulator. Their excitment was enormous.
