The two pictures on the left show the shoots in early spring (and early fall!), and the one on the right shows the blade leaves of epiphyllum.    We have another species of epiphyllum, which is much smaller and better plant in a hanging pot.  It's flowers?  Also much smaller (~3 inches).  See pictures here.
