As part of a city project to increase urban green spaces, a new community garden is in development. This garden will be utilizing land located in between two buildings and must have a maximum area of 500ft2. The first objective is to minimize the cost for fencing installation, which will be done by minimizing the amount of fence that will be needed. Principles in optimization were applied in order to calculate the minimum length and width of the garden plot. The minima values were also justified by applying the second derivative test. In the end, the minima decimal values when multiplied give the value 499.97, which was not quite the exact value of 500, but can be rounded up to that value.
