The coronavirus disease, also commonly referred to as COVID-19, is an infectious disease that is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which affects the respiratory system (World Health Organization, n.d). The first cases of COVID-19 were reported in Wuhan China at the end of 2019. The virus spread to multiple countries, including the United States within a few months after the first recorded case. On January 30th, COVID-19 was declared a global health emergency (Velavan & Meyer, 2020).

The growth of the virus can be predicted with calculations that use various mathematical models. This paper focuses on calculating whether the number of COVID-19 infections will be increasing or decreasing in the United States as time progress. This is done utilizing models that involve reproduction rate, and exponential functions and curves. The number of infections is expected to increase based on the result of the calculations conducted.
