Analysis on Packed Column Absorption of CO2 from Air Using Water

by Alessandro Parli

Submitted : Spring 2022

The objective of this project is to determine height of a packed carbon dioxide (CO2) column and evaluate its performance. The motivation comes from the importance of reducing air pollution around the world as CO2 exponentially increases through the years. The mathematical description and solution approach gave an understanding of the calculations needed to obtain the height and evaluate the efficiency of the packed column. The height of a packed column had to be determined to obtain a desired outlet air concentration of 0.04 mol % CO2 for contamination reduction. The height calculated was of 8.65 m. The recovery percent of CO2 was of 96.97%, which proved the efficiency of the packed column.
