Learning about Species Conservation through the Lens of Mathematics

Submitted : Spring 2021

Biodiversity is what makes up the ecosystems on earth. The idea that species are becoming extinct at such a rapid pace is devastating to the environmental field of science. Through the lens of calculus, a distinct parallel can be made from models, matrix’s, vectors, and Taylor polynomials to give a better picture as to the growth rate of a population of endangered species. Although there is still much to learn about habitat destruction and invasive species, this modeling can give a glimpse as to ways mathematics can help gage the annual rates of a particular species to shed light on the species vulnerability in the perceivable future.
