Creating a model of a dog cone based on conic multivariable calculus

Dog cones, when mathematically modeled, are at their base conic functions with restricted domain and range. Creating a 3D model of their shape helps to determine what size dogs can fit the cone being designed. These measurements need to be accurate, because dog cones are used by pets and veterinarians alike to prevent the animals from hurting themselves. Restricting access to other parts of the body is the main function of the cone, so examining the relationship between the circumference of the neck and the circumference of the mouth is a high priority calculation. In this report, a plastic dog cone was measured, and a conic, multivariable equation created to graph a 3D model. Once the function was created, the problem was graphed, and the domain restricted as necessary to cut out unnecessary values and properly make the shape of the cone. Finally, the relationship between the bottom of the cone, which represented the neck portion of the cone, and the mouth of the cone was observed to see if they were independent or dependent on each other.
