Volume of an Irregular Container

by Travis Nguyen

Submitted : Spring 2021

This project uses volume of solid of revolution, a topic from the vein of applications of integrals, to determine the volume of an irregularly shaped container, namely a yogurt cup. This is done in order to strike a balance between the amount of yogurt per container, allowing the manufacturer maximize the efficiency in which they can create and distribute product. As the shape of the container is irregular, the volume of the general container shape is taken first, then then the volume of the indentations in the container are subtracted from this general shape, generating the concave bottom to the container.
