Determining volume necessary for a filling given the dimensions of a mandibular molar

by Jarek Bolster

Submitted : Fall 2020

This project focuses on dental fillings which are used to treat tooth decay. Calculations are used to show a method for determining the volume necessary to properly prepare and fill the tooth. By using the clinical measurements of a mandibular first molar in addition to taking into account the residual tooth structure necessary to support the filling the volume is determined using a formula for calculating the area of a paraboloid.
