Controlling Rate of Change Using Proportional Integrals and Derivatives

Submitted : Fall 2020

I have explored the effectiveness of PID loops as a means to control the rate of change of temperature when trying to accurately heat an object to a specified “setpoint” temperature. The PID loop successfully controlled the heating of the object to the point where the temperature that was being recorded matched the setpoint temperature. However, the temperature increased passed the desired setpoint before finally settling on it. So, while an effective method of maintaining temperature accurately it does not seem to perfectly approach the desired temperature. At least not without adjustment from the user.
