Structural Analysis of a Cantilever Beam

by Mason Dudley

Submitted : Spring 2020

The objective of this project was to find the maximum amount of deflection of a given load of 10,000 pounds, on a 10-foot cantilever beam. To do this I started by finding the moment of inertia though integration. Using the moment of inertia equation, I was able to find the value of the moment of inertia which came out to be 864 in4. Using this value and the given value for length, weight, and the modulus of inertia which is 29,000,000 psi, I entered them into the maximum deflection equation and came to an answer of 0.23 in. This is considered an expected result and would be compared to factors of safety for the project.
