Sequential Reactions in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR)

by Leticia Weimer

Submitted : Fall 2019

The project uses a given continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) which has the products of chemical species A, species B, and species C. The reaction in this scenario is a sequential reaction which means chemical species A turns into species B which then turns into species C. The objective of this paper is to find the residence time that maximizes the concentration of species B in the outlet stream of the CSTR. Residence time tells you at what point the reaction is in. This means that you can tell what stage it is in. So, for a sequential reaction you would be able to tell what product would be formed at that particular point in residence time.
