The following mathematical literature is a distilled version of Haldane’s far more complex model, filtered by Dr. D.R. Westbrook (University of Calgary), so as to make it more digestible for calculus amateurs like myself. The proof worked through below determines a unique differential equation that explains the flow relationship between gas pressure entering and exiting the body at a given depth and air pressure. More specifically, the differential tells us an approximate rate of equalized pressure that is critical knowledge for divers. Once pressure is equalized, divers may ascend safely to the surface.
