Using Integral Calculus to Estimate the Volume of Lake

by Weijie Kang

Submitted : Fall 2019

The objective of this project is to calculate the volume of the Longbasaba lake, which located in the north of Himalaya. Data was collected by Xiaojun Yao’s team from Northwest Normal University. At the beginning, we imported Yao's data into Excel and created a mathematical model. The simplified model can be written into a simplified formula to roughly estimate the cross-sectional area of the lake. Then, we multiply the cross-sectional area times the width of the lake to find the volume of the lake.
