Temperature Distribution in a Cylindrical Bar

by Brooke Harris

Submitted : Spring 2013

This project calculated the temperature T inside the bar as a function of interior position (r, θ) by making a plot of dimensionless temperature τ versus (r/R) along the line θ = 0. Integrals were evaluated and substituted for within an infinite series. The series was then evaluated for at intervals increasing values of (r/R) by 0.1 and n by increments of 1 using a Java program called TemperatureDistribution() created specifically for the project. It was found that as the center of the bar was reached, the temperature increases. As the edge of the bar is reached, the temperature decreases.
